On the 6th of March 2023, We took a small group of media to visit Kemasul forest and Kuantan Tunnel in collaboration with MRL to showcase the environmental and wildlife efforts CCCECRL has put in place along the 655 km alignment.
The alignment will traverse through a diversity of habitats, including dipterocarp forests and mangrove forests. With such a diversity of habitats and a large area of remnant vegetation, the project area supports a high diversity of terrestrial fauna, including some species of conservation significance.
The greatest extent of wildlife habitats in Peninsular Malaysia is located within forest reserves, some of the most important habitats have been set aside for preservation within protected areas, whereas some pockets of habitats are located on State land or alienated land. Overall, a significant number of wild animal species in Peninsular Malaysia are afforded protection under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 (Act 716), which is enforced throughout the peninsula by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN).
